in the beginning, there were sodas. or beer. in the beginning, specifically, there were the crates the sodas – or beers – were carried in. the sodas – or beers – have long since moved on, but the crates remained and took on new lives as containers for records. we guess this paragraph could have been more dramatic; to be honest, we envisioned a National Geographic-type feel to this whole thing, but we failed.

anyway, here it is:

in celebration of this unintentional swedish classic, we've made a new, better version of it. purposefully for your records, not accidentally. made by hand, in wood, built to last, painted with danish ecological linseed colors.

we call it BACKEN, which literally translates to "the crate" in Swedish.

BACKEN comes flat-packed with everything you need, except a screwdriver. you need one of those. even if you don't buy a BACKEN, we recommend getting a screwdriver. they are great.

BACKEN was first launched in 2024, then we took a break, and now we're back. sorry, BACK. since '24, we've adjusted the product slightly, but not in ways you'll notice. if you have an original BACKEN from back then, the new one will look more or less identical to the old one, so they can safely be placed next to each other and be referred to as twins. no one will call you out for it.
